Rena Ione Benavidez, 51, of Burgoon, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon.


Rena was born Feb. 20, 1966, in Tiffin, to Kathryn (Shupe) Hussman and Thomas Glenn Brubaker. She married Bernardo Benavidez Jr. March 2, 1998, in Bettsville, and he survives in Burgoon.

Survivors also include her mother; three children, Paul (Jamie) Brubaker of Bradner, Ben Smith of Fremont and Brianna Ione Benavidez of Bradner; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Lynn Benavidez of Port Clinton; three grandchildren, Landon, Ava and Braelyn Brubaker; three stepgrandchildren, Azariah, Rallo and Royce Robertson; a half brother, Kerry (Cindi) Brubaker of Bettsville; a half sister, Cindy Brubaker-Gamble of Whites Landing; and her beloved dog, Sassy.

Rena was preceded in death by her father and stepfather, Bernard Geller.

Rena graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1984 and worked at Sentinel, in the office, and as a computer teacher. She later worked at Century Dye, Fremont. Rena enjoyed playing cards, going to the library and reading, and watching “Animal Planet” on TV. Recently, Rena had begun learning to crochet. She also enjoyed walking her dog, Sassy, in the park.

A memorial gathering for Rena will be 3-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at H.P. Eells Park, Bettsville. Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Engle-Shook Funeral Home, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883.
