Joan L. O'Leary (nee Lawler), 76, passed away on August 3, 2016. She was the beloved and devoted wife of 55 years to Dion D. O'Leary; loving mother of Kathleen (Mark) Vierck, Darren (Margaret) O'Leary and the late Brian O'Leary; cherished grandmother of Megan and Kenneth Vierck, Elizabeth, Kevin and David O'Leary, and John O'Leary and the late Adam O'Leary.

She was proud of her career as a Nurse Epidemiologist at Good Samaritan, Rush Copley and St. Joseph (Joliet) Hospitals. She was very talented in her field and some of her accomplishments include: Past President of the Chicago Chapter of the Association of Practitioners in Infection Control and Epidemiology. Past President of Fox Valley Infection Control Practitioners. She was also Past President of Loretto Auxiliary and Past President of St. Therese School of Nursing Auxiliary. Past Officer of Joliet Catholic Nurses. Graduate of St. Therese School of Nursing, Aurora University and Centers for Disease Control and Epidemiology. She was in the first group of Certified Infection Control Practitioners. She was a Charter Member of The National Nursing Honor Society and in the "Lambda Upsilon" Chapter. Joan served on Former Governor Thompson's Legislative AIDS Committee. She also served on the Chicago Area AIDS task force as the Technical Advisor, for the American Hospital Association's video on AIDS which was entitled "Was It Worth the Risk?" Joan published an article on Salmonella in the "Medical Journal Articles". She was an accomplished woman; professionally with her career and personally with her family.
