Phillip E. Glover served 2 years in the United States Army from August 5, 1953 - September 6, 1955, before receiving an honorable discharge.
He worked at Fort McNair Army post where he was commended for his superior performance during December 1988 to November 1989. Per the Commander and Director "He provided support as an equipment operator and supervisor. He often assumed the responsibilities as acting foreman, roads and grounds shop during the impending flooding of hurricane HUGO. He coordinated, procured and prepositioned engineer materials that drastically improved Fort McNair’s readiness posture for unexpected sever weather. Mr. Glover’s performance was char-acterized by a high degree of professional performance during the rating period which is charac-terized by his ingenuity, a high degree of professionalism, leadership and dedication duty”.
Phillip E. Glover retired from the Department of the Army in January 1993. In his retirement years he occupied his time with the things he enjoyed the most. He was a licensed Master Bar-ber, and a DC taxicab driver for over 40 years. He loved driving all over the Metropolitan area and beyond for his clients. He also loved fishing and enjoyed frequenting the Casinos.
Phillip passed peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Washington, D.C. VA Medical Center.
Phillip E. Glover was preceded in death by four sons: the late Phillip Eugene Glover Jr., Lawrence "Larry" Gregory Glover, Luke Glover and Vernon Eugene Glover Sr. He leaves behind his three remaining children Leroy Marcellus Glover, Lorraine C. Shorter, and Phillip Martin Glover, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, and friends to cherish his life and memory. May God rest his soul for eternity!
