Mr. Lee E. Carter, Jr., 81, of Hartwell, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at his home.
Born on April 13, 1936 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late Lee E. Carter, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Reese Carter. Mr. Carter was the former president of the Hartwell Railroad Co and former owner/operator of Gumlog Wood Company. He also was a member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church. Mr. Carter was a retired US Navy veteran with twenty years of service as a Chief Petty officer. He loved bluegrass music and played at Clem's Shoal Creek Music Park.
Survivors include his wife: Jane Feltman Carter; two sons: James Steven Carter, Benton Lee "Ben" Carter both of Hartwell; one daughter: Martha Carter Maness and her husband Shannon of Bennett, NC; two grandchildren: Shellie Martin Bell, Dakota Lee Bannister; and one brother: William Lawrence Carter of Pensacola, FL. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Chaplain Shannon Maness officiating. Burial will be in the Northview Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, GA Affiliate, 223 Peachtree Street, Suite 225, Atlanta, GA 30303.
