Salem - A memorial service will be held at Howell-Edwards-Doerkson Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at 1:00 p.m., for Vera Evelyn Davies who died on Dec. 8, 2003, at age 82.

Vera Evelyn Davies was born in Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada on Oct. 15, 1921 to Frank and Clarice Mackey. The family moved to Portland in 1925 and to Gresham in 1931. Vera graduated from Gresham High School in 1939. She was a beautician, a Tupperware dealer and retired from working in the fred Meyer Meat Department. She married Raymond Long, a WWII veteran on January 15, 1944 in Florence Arizona; he died in 1965. In 1968 she married LaDoyt Davies; he died in 1982.

Membership in the Multnomah Eastern Star Chapter 104 in Portland on January 18, 1966, was the beginning of many years of devoted service to Lodge work. After moving to Salem in 1968, she was active in the Ainsworth Chapter OES, and was a Past Royal Matron of Hannah Rosa order of Amaranth. She had also been active in White Shrine and South Salem Senior Center.

She is survived by sister, Zerita Owen of Portland and eleven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Kenny, and Margaret Mackey, and brothers Francis Adam and Harold Edwin Mackey.
