Nancy Walton Dumas
August 12, 1936 – September 3, 2017
Nancy Walton Dumas was the 7th of 9 children born to the late Thomas E. Walton and Emmie Gilmore Walton of Monroe County, Georgia. She joined the master on Sunday, September 3, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman J. Dumas, Sr. and her son, Norman J. Dumas, Jr.
At an early age, she joined Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Smarr, Georgia. In 1965, she joined with Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Atlanta, Georgia where she served faithfully until her until Christ called her home. During her tenure at Mount Calvary, Nancy served on numerous committees and in numerous auxiliaries including the Mother's Board, President of the August Birth Month Circle, Women of Mount Calvary and culinary committees to name a few.
Nancy was educated in Monroe County Public Schools where she matriculated at the age of 15 from Hubbard High School of Monroe County, Georgia. After graduating from High School, she briefly attended Fort Valley State College in Fort Valley, Georgia. Nancy received disability from Atlanta Army Depot. Later she worked for Aetna Insurance Company, Bank of America and Kid's Time Early Learning Center.
Nancy left a lasting impact on all those she met. She was an inspiration to many and embodied a loving personality and warm spirit. On July 12, 1957, she was joined in marriage to Norman James Dumas.
Left to cherish fond memories of her are children: Yvonne Olgetree of Jonesboro, Georgia, Dana Dumas-Dixon, Raynard Shelby Dumas, and Robert Nicholas Dumas (Kenya) of Atlanta, Georgia; aunts, Isabella Dumas Jackson; uncles, J. C. Hall (Lula Pearl)of Macon, Georgia, Benjamin Stroud of South Bend, Indiana and Alonzo Hall of Detroit, Michigan; siblings: Jesse Walton (Lorraine) of Atlanta, Georgia and Ezell Chambliss of Forysth, Georgia; in-laws: Sarah Walton of Inkster, Michigan, Irene Walton and Bessie Walton of Forysth, Georgia, Mary Louise Dumas and Robbie J. Dumas Cook (Dwight) of Atlanta, Georgia, Lewis H. Dumas (Mary) and Lois H. Dumas Bailey of Decatur, Georgia; grandchildren, Roderic Smith, Justin Dumas, Daniel Dixon, Dominique Dixon, Jerovic Dumas, Zinear Dumas, Joirea Dumas, Zaquai Dumas; two great-grandchildren, Zane Smith and Zayden Smith; special niece, Brenda A. Bentley and nephew, Anthony Walton, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
