Obituary.....
Mr. Robert Harold Looney, age 75, of Lavonia, GA passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital following a brief illness.
Born June 22, 1942, in Devon, WV, he was the son of the late Earl Looney and Alice Willard.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. During his selfless military service, he served two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded the National Defense Medal, five Overseas Service Bars, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, a Sharpshooter Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired as a civilian contractor at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Mr. Looney was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife: Eileen (McCarthy) Looney; children: Ann Frasier, Jon Looney, Malinda Lathan, Darlene Sue Baggett, Linda Myers, Harold Seeley, and Kathy Baldasare; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Stuart Looney; and sister: Elizabeth Looney.
The graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Lavonia City ~ Burgess Cemetery with Rev. Steve Albanese officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours, the family will be at the home. Strickland Funeral Home – Lavonia Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
