BRUNSWICK - Mark P. Brannon, 64, of Durham, passed away unexpectedly in Brunswick on Monday, September 4, 2017, with his wife by his side.
He was born in Paris, France, on November 12, 1952, the son of the late Sgt. Maj. Samuel and Bessie (Koujales) Brannon.
Following graduation from high school in 1970, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He remained in the Navy for 22 years before retiring as Command Master Chief upon his return from Operation Desert Storm on the USS Austin (LPD-4).
After retirement from the Navy he began a 20-year long career in computer software development.
On November 24, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Marlene Ennis in Columbus, Ga. After many deployments and relocations, they settled in Durham to raise their young family.
He was an avid Corvette fan and belonged to The Mid Maine Vettes Club. He was also a longtime member of the NRA and enjoyed participating and winning many awards in competition sporting clays shooting. He was an avid reader, published author of a guide to shooting sporting clays, and history buff.
Mark is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Phyllis Brannon; two children, Matthew Brannon and wife, Jennifer, of Bowdoin and Melissa Robinson and husband, Seth,of Auburn; four grandchildren, Mandi and Eric Brannon and Jackson and Owen Robinson; and his sister, Christine Brannon.
He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Bessie (Koujales) Brannon.
