YORK, Gerald Patrick “Jerry”, 87, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at his home.

Born January 28, 1930, he was the son of Roy and Gertrude York. He graduated from the University of Dayton and then entered the Army and served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant.

Jerry's career spanned over 60 years in the nut industry, starting at Dayton Nut Products in Dayton, Ohio. He and his wife, Betty, started Tropical Nut & Fruit in 1977 and The Home Economist stores (aka The Healthy Home Market) in 1979. He loved his companies and employees and was proud of their success.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Murphy York; his daughters, Carolyn Bennett (John) and Angela Bauer (John); and five grandchildren, Maxim and Anton Bennett, Camille, Christopher and Eva Bauer. He was predeceased by his beloved sons, Garry and Michael.

Jerry came from a large family and is survived by six brothers; Allen (Joyce), Fred (Linda), David (Linda), John (Becky), Tom and Paul (Julia). His surviving sisters are Shirley Turvene, Patty Prior (Kenny) and Rosemary Buckner (Gordon) and his sister in law, Gene. He was predeceased by his oldest brother, Norbert, sister, Norma Hunter (and husband Jack), infant brother, Anthony, and his brother in law, Jim Turvene.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 E. Second St., Dayton, OH 45402. Fr. Angelo Anthony, C.PP.S., celebrant. Interment Willow View Cemetery. The family will receive friends 9:30 a.m. Thursday, prior to the mass, at the church.
