Son of John Henry Saline and Susannah Rebecca Osborne. Died unmarried. Worked on the family ranch at the time of his death.

Charles Marten was born November 11, 1871, in Fairview, Sanpete, Utah. He was the fifth child of John Saline and Susannah Rebecca Osborne and was only eight years old when his parents left Fairview, Utah, and moved to Brigham City, Utah, in 1880. He moved with his family to Flagstaff, Arizona where his father and older brothers worked on the railroad. After living in Forest Dale, he moved with his family to Pima, Arizona, arriving on February 14, 1882.

Marten received some schooling while he lived in Pima, but as soon as he was old enough, he was off helping his brothers with the Saline Brother's company farms. He also helped work on the old "Tin Can" hay baler.

In 1902, Marten and William made a trip to Washington and Oregon. They were searching for a farm or cattle ranch. They left Pima with a good team of horses and a light wagon, carrying camping equipment and feed for the horses. They worked wherever they could find employment - in the beet fields and processing plants of Utah and on hay and dairy farms. They reached Idaho and Washington and intended to go on up into Canada, but it was so late in the season that they went to Oregon. In 1904 they attended the World's Fair at Portland, Oregon, and saw, among other things, the first shredded wheat biscuits being made. They returned to Pima two years after they had started out with the same team and wagon and a little more money in their pockets.

Marten worked for many years on ranches and farms in the Arizona Territory. Whenever he was in the Gila Valley, he usually lived with Albert and his family. When Albert moved to Eden in 1927, Marten moved with him, helping with the farm. He and Albert purchased the Andy Carlson farm to add to their acreage in Eden.

Charles Marten died unmarried in Pima at the home of his brother LaRoy, on October 10, 1938. He was buried in the Pima Cemetery.
