Karen Lea Collins, 69, of Clarinda, IA, and formerly of College Springs, IA, passed from this life on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, IA.

Karen was born in Elmo, MO, on December 31, 1947, to William Lisle and Vivian Irene (Cross) Akin. Her father preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her sister and brother in law, Patricia and John Mullins.

She graduated from West Nodaway High School and then went to Des Moines, IA, to attend Beauty School. After a few years of working as a beautician, she was employed at South Page Community School for many years. She worked as a cook, custodian and teacher’s aide. She enjoyed her years there and had a lot of laughter and memories with the kids and faculty. She later became employed by AKS in Clarinda as well as Easters True Value.

She lived most of her life in College Springs, and had moved to Maryville in 2014. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She loved sitting on her swing and enjoying the outdoors. Her scrapbooking became her passion, displaying her memories of her family throughout the years.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Stacey (Harold) Aksamit, Bolckow, MO, and Wendy Turner, Maryville, MO; her mother, Vivian I. Akin, Clarinda, IA; 3 grandchildren, Sydney Prather, Chloe Prather, and Sophia Turner; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Collins has been cremated. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 PM, Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Memorial services will follow the visitation at the funeral home on Saturday.
