Paul Carney was born in Yonkers, NY on September 6, 1952 to the late Arthur 'Art' Carney and Jean (Myers) Carney. He grew up in both Yonkers and Westbrook and attended Roosevelt High School. During the '70s and '80s Paul was a well-known pianist along the Connecticut shoreline and entertained tens of thousands of people with his music. He brought the house down with songs like "Night Time Fun" and "Bring it to a Blaze."

He loved living on the shoreline, where he made many friends, and eventually decided to start a family in Old Saybrook. But, with a life in entertainment, also came struggles with addiction that, ultimately, took over his life.

Music was his lifelong passion and nothing brought him more happiness than being able to play his piano and write lyrics. He also enjoyed listening to The Beatles, Jimmy Webb, and Chicago, among many other musicians, and watching his large collection of movies.

He is survived by his daughter, Shaine Belli of East Haddam and son, Devin Carney of Old Lyme, both of whom brought him joy and made him proud. He is also survived by his brother, Brian Carney of North Salem, NY, nephew Christopher Reifeiss and nieces Kirsten Reifeiss, Jill Carney, and Amanda Carney and great-nephew Garrett Carney. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Erin Carney, and his sister, Eileen Carney.

His children would like to thank those who helped their father during his difficult times, especially those who tried to steer him on the right path.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, General Service Office, Box 459, Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163.

"When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, Speaking words of wisdom, Let it be. And in my hour of darkness, She is standing right in front of me, Speaking words of wisdom, Let it be."- Lennon-McCartney

Memorial service took place Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. Burial was private.
