Son of Samuel D. & Mary Quimby. Military veteran cemetery records list his DOB as May 30, 1839; monument has his YOB as 1834. John was a Civil War veteran. He enlisted on January 1, 1864; served as a Private in Co. L, 1st Heavy Artillery Maine Volunteers; and was discharged in 1865. He died of a Liver Tumor.
