On Dec. 23, 1751 at Preston, Conn. Samuel m. Elizabeth Stark, dau. of Christopher Stark and Joanna Walworth, b. Dec. 23, 1730 at Groton, Conn. She d. Sept. 19, 1772 at Preston, Conn, Æ 42. They had 10 children at Preston: Samuel (d.y.), Elizabeth, Salmon, Mary, Dorothy (d.y.), James, Samuel, John, Amos and Phebe.
"Mr Treat graduated at Yale in 1734, and spent most of his life in Preston. He was what was called a 'New Light,' or 'Separatist,' in those days. The preachers of that sect were ordained by laymen. There were about twelve churches of that faith in eastern Connecticut, some of which were nearly as large and influential as those of the standing [Congregational] order. It is supposed that after the retirement of his father, Rev. Salmon Treat [of the Preston Cong. Chh.], he supplied the pulpit of the church, but was not installed. He afterwards officiated at Elder Paul Park's [Separatist] church, which he joined Dec. 4, 1747, and where his children were baptized." (Treat Family Genealogy, p. 488-9)
