Gary Leon Sparks, 63, of Townsend, born September 13, 1953 went home to be with the Lord, Friday, September 8, 2017 at his home. He was member of Caylor's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Gary is a Cades Cove descendent and lived there the first few years of his life. He is a member of the Cades Cove Preservation Association and the Foothills Antique Tractor Club. Gary enjoyed tractor pulling with his Farmall 460, and was a retired truck driver.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Asa and Amy Sparks, John and Ruthie Bryant; father-in-law, Clark Walker.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandy Sparks; son and wife, Michael and JJ Sparks; grandsons, Austin, Hunter, and Eli Sparks; and their mother, Erin Sparks; parents, Leon and Johnnie Sparks; mother-in-law, Maxine Walker; siblings and spouses, Wanda and Steve Roberts of Peoria, Illinois, Phyllis and Eddie Hill of Maryville, Kathy and Joe Burns, David and Tammy Sparks, and Judy and Delbert Kilby all of Townsend; 12 nieces and nephews and spouses; 27 great-nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.

Gary fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. His fight was admired and appreciated by all who knew him, and He won the battle... "to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Caylor's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 486 Webb Rd. Townsend, TN 37882.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2017 at Caylor's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Robert Burns, Rev. Jim Everett, Rev. Ray Caldwell, and Rev. Bill Dixon officaiting . Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday at Caylor's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
