Dorothy Schaefer, 90, of Columbus, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 562 17th Ave., in Columbus. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Thursday, with a 5 p.m. vigil, and 8-10 a.m. Friday, all at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church or St. Theresa Sodality.

Dorothy Ann Schaefer was born June 14, 1927, in Lindsay to Tony and Elsie (Hamling) Oberhauser. She grew up in Lindsay where she graduated from Lindsay Holy Family High in 1946. She married Myllin Thomas Schaefer on Oct. 11, 1950, in Lindsay. She was a loving mother to Jim, Tommy and Jerry. The loss of their son Tommy was life-changing, but faith carried her through. Dorothy worked at Becton Dickinson for 30 years until her retirement. The love of God and family was Dorothy’s inspiration. Her earthly duties were fulfilled selflessly and whole-heartedly. She was loved by all who knew her. Dorothy was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Dorothy joined her loved ones in heaven on Sept. 8, 2017.

Dorothy is survived by her son James Jim (Arlee) Schaefer of Columbus; son Jerome Jerry (Konnie) Schaefer of Blue Hill; granddaughter Nicole (Joe) Everingham of Omaha; granddaughter Stefanie (Keith) Blackwell of Ft. Myers, Florida; grandson Matthew (Maggie) Schaefer of Lincoln; grandson Michael Schaefer of Lincoln; granddaughter Jami (Andrew) McDowell of Manassas Park, Virginia; granddaughter Kathryn Ann Schaefer of Lincoln; seven great-grandchildren Kenzie, Ryan and Cade Everingham, Jack Schaefer, Rosanna and Miles Blackwell, Ronan McDowell; brother Tony (Joan) Oberhauser of Bellevue; sister-in-law Connie Oberhauser (Dale) Daigh of Bellevue; and brother-in-law Bud Steiner of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her son Thomas Andrew Schaefer (March 22, 1953-Nov. 27, 1963), parents Tony and Elsie Oberhauser, brother and sister-in-law Andrew Andy and Regina Oberhauser, brother and sister-in-law William Bill and Bernyce Oberhauser, brother Eugene Gene Oberhauser, brother and sister-in-law Jerome Jerry and Lorene Oberhauser and sister Betty Steiner.
