On August 24, 2017, Linda J. Riggs was called home. Linda was born and raised in Houston's "West-end". She graduated from Booker T. Washington High and had a 35 year career in nursing.
On a beautiful Sunday morning, June 18, 1944 at 9AM, a baby girl Linda Julietta was born. Linda was born before her mother (Gwendola) could be taken to Hermann Hospital. She was born at home on West 21st in Houston Heights. Will Weatherall Sr. and Gwendola were the proud parents. Linda was raised in the West-End. The Weatherall family started worshipping at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church when she was 11 months old. As a child, Linda loved to sing and performed her first solo "It's no secret what God can do" at the age of 5. At the age of 9, Linda was baptized at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Linda has been singing in the choir and was an active member of St. Mary until her demise. Before passing, she was a member of the Mass Choir.
At the age of 5, Linda started school at Harper Elementary & Jr. High School. Linda's high school years were spent at Booker T. Washington, where she graduated in 1962. In 1961, Linda was chosen to serve as Narrator during the "39th" Girl Scouts dinner, held at the Shamrock-Hilton Hotel. In high school, Linda was very active. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Girl Scouts, Y-teens, Mademoiselle Club and the Medical Career Club. Linda was elected "Most Talented Girl" in her senior class in "62". Linda continued her education at St. Peter Claver Academy in San Antonio, Texas, Common Wealth College of Science and Houston Independent School District Vocational Nursing Program (Now, Houston Community College). Linda completed Nursing School and received her certification to become a License Vocational Nurse (L.V.N.). During Linda's 35 years of nursing, she worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, did 2 years of private duty nursing and retired for Memorial Hermann Southeast on August 6, 1999 after 25 years of service.
Life after retirement was very full. Linda enjoyed, reading, singing, crafts, bus rides to the casino, gardening, helping those in need, studying the Bible, collecting and sending cards to the sick. She spent time in Gardening and ceramics for seniors at Tom Bass Park. In 2000-2001, Linda was active with the Harris County Precinct One Senior Drama Program and had a part in the Thomas Meloncon play "Let Yesterday Go". She also advocated for Senior Health and over all health in the African American community during many presentations at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church.

Linda met and married Warren Adam Riggs of Opelousas, Louisiana. To this union they had two daughters, Vantrice Lacarla Riggs and Jessica Lynn Riggs. Warren and Linda divorced after 11 1/2 years of marriage. 13 1/2 years later Warren and Linda Remarried on October 9, 1989. At the time of Linda's demise, Warren and Linda were married 27 years. Linda leaves to cherish in her memory; Husband, Warren Adam Riggs; Daughter, Jessica Lynn Riggs, Four grandchildren, Natasha Napper (Geoffrey), Kristina Riggs, Thomas Banjo Jr. and Zackary Riggs and 4 great grandchildren, Isiah, Evan, Jacob and Anniah; Brother-in-laws, Wortie Riggs (Janice) of Houston, TX, Menson Riggs of Houston, Larrell Riggs of Houston; Sister-in-laws, Arabella Minick of Opelousas, Louisiana, Demona Ann Chenier (Floyd) of Opelousas, Louisiana, Rose Riggs (Lenson-deceased) of Houston, Bernella Phelps (John) of Arizona, along with a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Weatherall Sr. and Gwendola Weatherall daughter, Vantrice Lacarla Riggs; Sister, Joyce Watson and brother, Will Weatherall, Jr.. Services will be Saturday, September 9, 2017, 12p.m. at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 4602 Eli St., Houston, TX 77007.
