BENSING, DOLORES M., 79, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday December 31, 2008 at her residence.

Born in Los Angeles, CA, she was the former Dolores McDaneld. As a young woman, Dolores was accepted to The Juilliard School of Music. Dolores was a nationally recognized quilter and a member of Louisville Nimble Thimbles, among other quilting societies. Her quilts have won many ribbons at the Kentucky State Fair. The Virgin Mary quilt hangs in the lobby of Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital Cancer Unit. Another quilt was showcased with Sister Cities International, reproduced in poster form, and traveled the world with that organization. Dolores donated two quilts to the WKU museum. Home and Garden Television filmed a segment about Dolores and her art. She was also a Sunday school teacher and a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, four children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Her funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, at St. Agnes, 1920 Newburg Rd., with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
