Loren L. Reed, was born Feb. 25, 1905, in Burr Oak, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Amy Reed.

In 1918, the family moved to Austin, Minn., where he attended school. His marriage to Frances Kortuem took place April 12, 1926, in Austin.

Mr. Reed was employed by Geo. A. Hormel & Co. over 50 years and for 10 years managed Husnik's Resort at Milac Lake, northern Minnesota. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Cedar Valley Conservation Club. He served as mayor of Mapleview from 1949 to 1953.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Mrs. Don (Marilyn) Helfter, Osage, Iowa; Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Schroeder, Gilmer, Texas; Richard and Charleen Reed, Austin; Clifton Reed, Park City, Ill., Mrs. Darwin (Sharon) Miller, Austin.

Funeral services were held July 1, 1986, at St. Augustine Church, Rev. Charles Quinn officiating. Robert McGinnis was soloist and Leona Miller, organist. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with pallbearers, Carl Mullenbach, Byran Hernandez, Doug Miller, Hank Helfter, Dana Hovland, Mike Helfter, Frank Helfter, Tony Helfter. Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
