On September 6, 2017, Opal Stanford Ward, 93, of French Camp left this world for her heavenly home. Opal was born December 22, 1923, in Greenwood Springs, Mississippi, to Guy and Nola Irvin Stanford.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Braswell of French Camp; a son, Robert F. Ward Jr. (Mary Edwina) of Madison; daughter-in-love, Virginia Stricklin of Harrisville; five grandchildren, Stephanie Ward Thibodeaux (Terry), Trey Ward (Heather), Barry Woods, Amanda Cox (Bobby), and Chris Woods; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She has three surviving sisters, Shirley Watts of Ethel, Betty Sue Chesteen of French Camp, Andrea Armstrong of Winona; and two brothers, James Stanford of French Camp and David Stanford of Central, Louisiana.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, R. F. Ward; two grandchildren, Hal Woods and Stacey Ward; a sister, Eloise Braswell;and a brother, John Stanford.
Visitation will be at Oliver Funeral Home on Saturday, September 9, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Sunday, September 10, at 3:00 p.m., at Bethsaida Baptist Church in French Camp, with burial following in Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Weir.
Officiating the service will be Rev. Mark Coon, Rev. Alex Lawson, and Rev. Roy Hawkins. Pallbearers will be Mark Ward, Tommy Ward, Guy Stanford, Brent Stanford, Mike Armstrong, Tony Stanford, and Arvil Stanford.
Opal's family would like to express heartfelt thanks to April Bridges, Tammie Utoff, Ken Greene, and Linda Moore from Baptist Hospice for the love and care shown to their mother.
