WILLIAM RYAN'S BODY
FOUND IN DOG HOLLOW

DISCOVERED BY WILLIAM VAN-
DEE TUESDAY AFTERNOON

Disappearance Has Been a Mystery
Since March 9, When He Left Home
to go to the Home of His Father -
-Coroner Padget Performed Au-
topsy and Pronounced Death Due to
Acute Dilation of the Heart

Truxton, April 19. - The mystery surrounding the disappearance of William E. Ryan was solved Tuesday when his body was found by a neighbor, William VanDee, who while cutting wood on a woodlot on his place in Dog Hollow discovered the body of a man. He at once went for help and together with Bird Freeman returned to the place. Mr. Freeman at once identified the body as that of William Ryan, whose strange disappearance has been the subject of so much talk. Mr. Ryan was lying on his back with his cap and one mitten beside him and the other mitten on his hand.

With the permission of the coroner he was removed to the home of his father and later an autopsy being held, the coroner pronounced his death due to acute dilatation of the heart. Mr. Ryan left home March 9 telling his wife that he was going to the home of his father to help with the chores. After an absence of several days his wife became alarmed and began search for him. Not finding him at the home of his father and learning that he had not been there, large parties searched the snow drifts but were unable to find any trace of him.

Many theories have been advanced as to the cause of Mr. Ryan's disappearance. Those who knew him well refused to believe that he had deliberately abandoned his family and aged father, to whom he was kind and thoughtful. His friends assert that he was not financially involved as has been rumored.

Mr. Ryan was 34 years old and had spent his entire life in Truxton. He is survived by his wife and two children; his father, Edmund Ryan; one brother, Thomas Ryan of Truxton, and seven sisters, Anna, Bridget and Jane of Truxton, Mrs. Edward Mellon and Mrs. James Burns of Cortland, Mrs. William Miller of Homer and Mrs. Lester Fox of Preble.

The funeral was held from St. Patrick's church Wednesday morning, Rev. Father Richard Purcell officiating, was largely attended, and the floral tribute was very profuse. Interment was made in the family plot in St. Patrick's cemetery in this village.

Note: According to story in Binghamton Press, he had three children.
