NEOGA - John William "Bill" Gannaway, 80, of Shepherdstown, W. Va., formerly of Evanston and Neoga, died at 7 p.m. Friday (July 31, 1987) in the Veterans' Memorial Center in Martinsburg, W. Va.

The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, with Rev. Carol Pagelsen officiating. Visitation will be noon until the time of services. Burial will be in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery.

He was born April 23, 1907 , in Charleston, the son of John William and Elizabeth Shoot Gannaway. He married Helen Swengel June 14, 1931 in Mattoon. She survives.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. A. Jacob (Marian) Kamm of Atwood and Mrs. B.I. (Marjorie) Rose of Knoxville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Mr. Gannaway, a retired teacher, taught at Neoga, Franklin Park and New Trier High School. He was a member of the Shepherdstown, W. Va. Methodist Church, the National Education Association, The Shepherdstown Men's Club and the Shepherdstown water board. He was a life member of the U of I Alumni Association.
