Neil Dean Appleton, 76, left his earthly home on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.

Neil Dean was born on May 6, 1938, in Logansport, Ind., to Arthur E. and Vella P. De- Haven Appleton. He had lived in Deer Creek all of his life before moving to Franklin in 2006 to the Masonic Home Village retirement community.

On Oct. 14, 1956, he married Perrietta I. Martin at the Deer Creek Presbyterian Church where he had been baptized as an infant and where they attended for 50 years after their marriage. They were two of the 11 members of the graduating class of 1956 at the former Deer Creek High School.

Dean was involved with his father in a long-standing plumbing and electrical business known as Appleton and Son. He took over the business from his father in 1970 and operated it until 1983. He then went to work for the next 20 years at Chrysler Casting in Kokomo as an electrician, retiring from there in 2003.

He was active in the Deer Creek Presbyterian Church where he served as both an elder and a deacon. He was very active with the Masonic Lodge in Carroll County, being raised a Master Mason in his hometown of Deer Creek at the West Sonora Lodge F&AM in 1959. He received his award of Gold in 2009 in the Mt. Zion Lodge in Camden. He served as Worshipful Master six times as well as many other offices in both West Sonora and Camden lodges. He was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron many times. He was a 50-year member of the Order, and was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, since 1974.
