Megan Rebecca Hughes, 14, of Route 8A, died unexpectedly Saturday evening at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Born in Rochester, Pa., June 30, 1976, she was the daughter of James Hughes and Linda (Hill) Hughes. She moved to Jacksonville at an early age and had attended Whitingham School. She later attended Deerfield Valley Elementary School in Wilmington and at the time of her death was a ninth grade student at Wilmington High School. Miss Hughes was manager and past member of Wilmington Junior High Girls Softball Team, and she also played basketball while in junior high. She enjoyed reading, music and playing Trivial Pursuit, and worked in her spare time at the Red Shutter Inn in Wilmington as well as baby-sitting for area families. Surviving are her mother, Linda Hughes of Jacksonville; her father, James Hughes of Adams, Mass; a brother, Jonathon of Jacksonville; a sister, Anne, attending Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.; grandparents, the Rev. Joseph and Barbara Hill of Beaver Falls, Pa., and LeRoy and Marie Hughes of Beaver, Pa., aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilmington. Friends may call at Covey & Allen Funeral Home, Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance. Contributions in memory of Megan Hughes may be made to the Megan R. Hughes Scholarship Fund, in care of Covey & Allen Funeral Home, Main Street, Wilmington 05363.
