Stephen was born in Gloversville, New York to Emery and Paula Carpenter.
He graduated from Fonda-Fultonville Central High School in 1966.
He then began a long-term career with the railroad that lasted for over 40 years.
Stephen was an avid reader and had a fondness for the game of golf. He spent the majority of his time with family, who loved him dearly. His grandchildren brought much light into his life.
He married Carolyn (Compani) Carpenter on March 2, 1968, who he loved with all of his heart.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Christine (John) Carpenter, and Carla (Robert) Workman; two grandchildren, Madison and Cole Workman; and his sister, Fay Carpenter.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gary Carpenter and mother, Paula Quackenbush.
Stephen had a strong faith in the Lord, and his family takes comfort in knowing that they will be reunited in heaven. Stephen (Dad) you will be truly missed since you were our rock. Your sense of humor could always be counted on for laughter when we needed it most. Love you forever.
