Michael Shane John, born March 27, 1977, devoted father and husband, from Circle, passed away Aug. 29, 2017, in his home, surrounded by friends and family.

Mike is survived by his wife, Alexa; sons, Esau and Jacob; stepchildren, Chenoa and Meliah; nephew, Matthew John; and niece, Kaley Joseph; and many, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Dianne John and Artie Joseph; sister, Arlene Joseph; maternal grandparents, Anna and Ervin John; and uncles, Ervin John Jr., Charley John, Emma Ann Ginnis, Allen John and Wilbur John.

Mike grew up in Circle with his pack of best friends (and cousins), Jason John, Lee Crow, Crystal Charlie, Jessica Fields, Derrick Henry, Gerald Ginnis, Brian Henry, Ronald Mayo, Justin Mayo, Dawn Carroll, JR Crow, Billy John, Shawn Carroll and Robert Patrick.

Mike graduated from UAF in 2013 with a certificate in construction trades technology, and worked as the Circle School maintenance man.

He was also a certified water plant operator and worked in various seasonal construction jobs as well as firefighting.

Mike liked to hunt and enjoyed a traditional lifestyle.
Mike is a hero to many.

He cared for his great-uncle, Jackie Boyle, when he was battling cancer.

He took training to learn how to administer shots and medication as well as getting him to his many appointments and taking care of him day to day.

This was the kind of man Mike was, selfless and caring, always.

Anyone who knew Mike knows what a mellow and nice guy he was.

He was especially a favorite because of his wonderful personality and helpful ways.

He was reliable and you could always count on him.

It was a long and difficult journey as Mike struggled to beat cancer and he fought nobly.

Mike's wife, Alexa, and kids were by his side throughout his fight and worked together to build beautiful memories to last a lifetime.

Mike fought especially hard because of the love he had for his boys, Esau and Jacob.

Rest easy Mike, your sons will know forever the love you had for them.

They will remember and they also will be reminded.

A special thank-you to the cancer center and its staff, and a very special thank-you to Shellie Krabbe, case manager at CAIHC, who went above and beyond to ensure Mike and his family had the best care possible.

Visitation will be at noon Friday, Sept. 1, at Chapel of Chimes in Fairbanks.

The funeral will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Hall in Circle, with a potlatch afterward.
