Gladys Velvet Phillips, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 19, 1927, in Mecca to Horace Delbert and Rosie Mae (Kashon) Kent.

Gladys is survived by her son, Edward Phillips and wife Sharon; grandson, Michael Phillips and wife Holly; great-grandsons Austin and Alexander Phillips; brother, Richard Kent and wife Nancy; a very special friend, Mary Gayle; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Phillips; son, Donald Phillips; brothers, Horace Kent Jr., Oscar Kent, and Edward Kent; and sisters, Rosie Mae Mace and Bertha Bean.

Gladys was a member of AARP. She worked at Chilly Bill's, Woodrow Wilson, and was the food services manager at North High School. In her spare time, Gladys loved to shop, crochet, and do crafts.

Gladys' family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Wabash Valley for their compassionate care during her final days.

Visitation will be held from 11 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 7 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home. Gladys will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park.
