Richard J. Newberry, 69, of Archbald, died Saturday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Twp. He was the husband of Judith Waerhouse Newberry.

Born in Peckville on Sept. 19, 1947, son of the late Allen and Phyllis Humphreys Newberry, he served six years in the Navy during the Vietnam era and was an aviation electrical technician. He worked for Tobyhanna Army Depot and served as civilian support for the war in Iraq in 2007. He was a proud Papa to Jack and Joey and loved his two puppies, BoBo and Bailey. He was a strong supporter of the Democratic Party, loved the New York Yankees, Penn State football, Valley View Cougars and enjoyed listening to Beatles music.

Also surviving are two daughters, Michele Newberry, Dickson City; and Leslie Zadarosni and her husband, Ronald, and grandchildren, Jack Richard and Joseph Richard, Archbald; three stepsons, Michael Walton, Archbald; Patrick Walton and wife, Kim, Scott Twp.; and Eric Walton and wife, Cindy; stepgrandchildren, Spencer, Connor, Kolby, Breann, Patrick, Logan, Haley, Collin, Jon, Joan and Ryan; a sister, Valerie Springett, Archbald; a brother, Brian Newberry and wife, Teresa, Eynon; brother-in-law, William Waerhouse and wife, Marie, Throop; dear friend, Shelly Mitchko; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N. Main St., Archbald, with a service following at 7 p.m. by the Rev. William Blake.

Interment will be private at the Jermyn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
