Martha Nichols

A graveside service for homemaker Martha Helen Nichols of Paris will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda Cemetery. Tom Winchester, pastor of Union Friendship Baptist Church, will officiate.

Chosen as pallbearers are Cole and Richard Edwards, Horace Whitehead, Jimmy Clendenin, Everett Moody and Eddie Simmons.

Visitation will be from noon-1:40 p.m. Sunday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Nichols, 77, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Henry County Healthcare Center.

Born June 20, 1932, in Weakley County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Roy and Iva Delle Hedge Simmons.

She was married on April 13, 1952, to O.C. Nichols Jr., who died April 12, 1993.

Nichols was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.

She leaves one daughter, Sue Helen Turpin, Richmond, VA; one son, O.C. Nichols III of Paris; one sister, Bonnie Bowers of Birmingham, AL; two brothers, Robert J. (Sandra) Simmons of Crossville and Junior D. (Sylvia) Simmons of Sharon; one sister-in-law, Lois Simmons of Dresden; one grandchild, Bethany Nichols (Cole) Edwards of Buchanan; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert Roy Nichols in August 1974; two half sisters, Thelma Doherty and Georgia Hill; a half-brother, Gaylon A. Simmons; and a grandchild, Britney Lynn Nichols in 1994.
