Edith Balfrey passed away peacefully at Madrone Hospice on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007. Edith was a longtime resident of Yreka. She was born to Walter and Lola Bray on Jan. 29, 1919 in Yreka and grew up in Hornbrook on her family's ranch. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Stanley; brothers Gene, George and Walter; sisters Grace, Jenny, Rose, and Verna; and foster brother Albert. Edith attended Hornbrook Elementary School and Yreka High School. She graduated from Heald Business College and worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Southern Pacific Railroad in Dunsmuir during WWII and then for many years at the Yreka Drug Store. Edith loved life and her friends and family. She was a fun, generous and loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. -- Obituary, Siskiyou Daily News, Yreka, CA
