Mrs. Griffin was born in Chowan County on July 29, 1928, and was the daughter of the late William James Wright and Mattie Holland Wright Cayton. Retired from Edenton Cotton Mill after more than 40 years of employment, she attended Macedonia Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Alma Griffin; sisters, Andrea Wright, Margie Wright, and Josephine Nixon; and by brothers, Bobby and Preston Wright.
Surviving are her daughter, Kay Griffin Castelloe and husband Tommy of Edenton; her son, Marty Griffin and wife Donna of Kill Devil Hills; two sisters, Jean Wiggins of Edenton and Doris Gregory of Hertford; a brother, Danny Wright of Florence, SC; three grandchildren, Jenny Cutler and husband Patrick, Annabelle Marie Griffin, and Emmaleigh June Griffin; and three great-grandchildren, Christian, J.T., and Jalynn Cutler.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by Pastor John Rowland. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and other time at Kay and Tommy’s home, 2420 Virginia Road, Edenton.
