OBITUARY - MRS. E. CAREY

Elizabeth E. Smith, daughter of F. C. and Abbey Smith, was born in West Haven, Vermont, Feb. 6, 1864, and departed this life Sept. 7, 1932, aged 68 years, 7 months and 1 day.

When she was a small child she came with her parents to Iowa. She was the youngest in a family of ten children, seven brothers and one sister preceded her in death, and one brother Marshall E. Smith, who lives at Rexford, KS., survives.

On December 28, 1860 she was united in marriage to Charles S. Carey and to this union were born four sons, three of whom, with their father, have preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her departure, one son, Ora, of Long Beach, CA., two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Alina Carey of Long Beach and Mrs. Blanche Carey of Ladora, Iowa, and two grandchildren, Betty Vergeen and Bonnie Rea of Long Beach, and several nieces and nephews.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church of Ladora, Jan. 25, 1903. She was also a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Ladora and was for many years its historian. For about two years and a half she had been a great sufferer, yet, when relatives and friends came to see her she was always cheerful and thankful for their coming. She will be greatly missed by her neighbors and many friends.

The funeral was held from the home in Ladora at 1:30 on Wednesday, Rev. Hugh E. Williams officiating. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor. Pall bearers were Wright Chittenden, Walter Hart, Ben Hart, Thos. Smith, Hoyt Fish and Ralph Tyler.
