Surrounded by family, Linh Cong Nguyen peacefully passed away to join God on July 25, 2017, three days after celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife and family.
Linh was born on April 16, 1943 to Mr. Thong Nguyen and Mrs. Mai Nguyen in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam. He had an older brother, Phan, and an older sister, Hoan. Linh’s mom died soon after his birth. He was raised by his maternal grandmother and his dad until they both passed away by the time Linh was 10 years old. Linh eventually lived with his brother Phan and Phan’s family until adulthood.
Linh overcame his orphaned and impoverish childhood with self-reliance and resilience. Self-taught and starting with only a formal elementary education, he obtained the necessary credentials to become a teacher at age 18. His teaching career was cut short when he was drafted into the Republic of South Vietnam army to fight in the war. While serving in the army between 1964 and 1975, Linh became a High Officer, and also elected to be a provincial council man at age 26 (the second youngest person in the country at the time to hold such a position). In 1967, he married his eternal partner, Hanh. They raised three sons (Thanh, Hiep, Hung) before he was taken to labor camp in 1975. After being released from labor camp in 1981, they were blessed with two of the best children into the world (Minh and Quang). In 1993 they emigrated to the United States. With nothing more than the opportunity of a new life, Linh and Hanh worked hard to provide for their children and eventually settled in Everett and then Mountlake Terrace, Washington.
Linh always had an aspiration for knowledge. He was a bookworm who never stopped reading, writing, or learning. He enjoyed keeping up with current world events, and loved to discuss these with his friends and family. Linh was well loved and is remembered as kind, gentle, and sweet by those who were fortunate enough to have met him.
Linh is survived by his wife Hanh, his five children and their spouses, his grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families in Norway, Vietnam, and the United States.
