Mrs. Elisha Gardner died at her home in this city, Sat, Dec 8, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 10 days. Funeral services were held Tuesday, afternoon, the Rev. T. Harry Kelly in charge. Burial was made in La Valle, beside her husband, who passed away 8 years ago. Adalade Mary Brown was born Jan 28, 1843 at Conklin, Broom county, NY to Chas. L. Brown and Anna Brown, nee Howe. She moved with her parents in 1855 to Washera county, and in 1859 they moved to Sauk County, where she was united in marriage to Elisha Gardner, on Jul 4, 1867. They went to live on a farm near LaValle untile the fall of 1912, when they went to Yakima, WA, where they remained one and a half years with their daughter, Adelia and Flora. They then came to Reedsburg where they bought the home on 1208 East Main St. Mr. Gardner passed away on Feb 8, 1920. After his death her daughter, Flora, came to care for her in her reclining years. She passed away on Sat, Dec 8, 1928. She was the mother of eight children, Mahala, Roseana and Mable, who died in infancy; one daughter, Mrs. Alzada Hicks, proceeded her mother in death on Jan 22, 1910, the living children are Mrs. Adelia Hicks of Whittier, CA, Arthur Gardner, Flora Stahnke, and Herbert of Reedsburg. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was a Christian woman, her hope was in God and her life connected in his keeping. She expressed her hope of meeting her loved ones again in the kingdom of God. She was a loving mother and kind friend and neighbor, who will all miss her.
