From family tree info accumulated by me since 1966: on 12 Aug 1931, at age 26 he married 23 y/o Marie Louise Ragsdale (daughter of S. C. Congressman J. Willard Ragsdale). They had H. L. the 3rd, Edward S. & Stephen Willard. They divorced.
On 30 Oct 1953 (Boston Herald newspaper of 10/31/1953, p. 4...see photo of her here on Harry's memorial in the write-up of the wedding which noted that she was a graduate of St. Timothy's School and Vassar College), he (age 48) married a 22 y/o maiden, Jocelyn Thomas (Jayce Thomas; Joy Thomas) in the Brick Presbyterian Church (New York City), daughter of Mr. & Mrs. C. Lloyd Thomas of Concord; and they had Jay & Thomas.
He was a well known editor, writer, and teacher in New York (the latter, New York University & Columbia University, etc.). He was awarded Litt.D. (litterarum doctor...Doctor of Letters) at Davidson College In 1969.
I contacted the church (Trinity Church in Southport) which handled his funeral services to ask where he was buried, and the contact indicated that Joy would have to give that information.
The newspaper, The Sumter Item, Posted Saturday, November 2, 2019 has a number of items in its Reflections section for May 25-31, 1945: ""Harry L. Shaw," "Buck" as he was known by his fellow students, has become one of the most outstanding writers in America in his field, namely writing textbooks for grammar, rhetoric and composition. He is the author of more than one half dozen books in this field, says Havilah Babcock of the English department [was chair of the English Department at the University of South Carolina for many years]. Shaw was one of his former students. Shaw, whose home is in Sumter, is a graduate of Davidson College and earned his master's degree at the University of South Carolina in 1928."
