Born in Passaic, NJ, Charles was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Nick) Schmidt.
A US Air Force veteran and GE Apprenticeship Program graduate, Charles worked as a designer at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory until his retirement in 1991.
Charles was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing as well as golfing. He was also a weekend handyman and loved woodworking.
Charles leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Beverley (Johnson) Schmidt, and his children Craig S. Schmidt (Joanne) of Broadalbin, Lori J. Foley (David) of Charlton and Pamela Castillo (Ralph) of Rutledge, GA. He is also survived by one sister, Rosemary Korff (Norm) of Niskayuna, 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, numerous cousins and several nieces and nephews.
