Our beloved mother, Joy Bateman (Wixom) Samson, quietly passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 in Flagstaff, Arizona; she was ninety-five at the time of her passing.

She was born in West Jordan on May 29, 1922 to Thomas Philip and Mary Josephine (nee Wilson) Bateman, and is the youngest of ten children, all who have predeceased her. She attended and graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy in 1940.

On June 30, 1942, she married Blaine Alvin Wixom in the Salt Lake Temple. After thirty-two years of marriage, Blaine passed away in 1973 at the age of fifty-two. After several years as an eligible and attractive widow, she met, was courted by, and married Robert (Bob) Samson of Scottsdale, Arizona on August 24, 1976. After twenty-nine years of marriage, Bob passed away on May 14, 2005.

Joy is survived by her four children with Blaine: Shenayda Linda Deane, Gary Bateman Wixom, Mary Ann Lovendahl, and Susan Kay Lovendahl; step-children, Robert Samson, Carol Samson, Donna Elm, and Debbie Samson; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two step-children and three grandchildren.

An LDS funeral was held in Flagstaff on Saturday, August 19, 2017. In Utah, there will be a viewing held at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), Taylorsville, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 in the West Jordan City Cemetery beginning at 11:00 a.m.
