Ralph M. Brugger was the middle son of Edward and Dorothy Brugger, both native of Erie, PA.

Dr. Brugger had lived in Ames for the past 42 years. He was doctor of internal medicine and was a retired internist for McFarland Clinic in Ames, where he had practiced for 33 years.

He was a medical officer in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Elks, American Medical Society and American Society of Internal Medicine, and had served as a medical consultant in the National Animal Disease Center for 30 years. He was named an honorary research veterinarian.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma; five daughters, Jessica Meserve and Katherine Crawford, both of Kennebunk, ME, Judith Swann of Ithaca, N.Y., Roberta Gillis of Conifer, Colo., and Amy Patrick of Cave Creek, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Michaela Kolberg of Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Richard of Erie; and 18 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Miriam.
Burial was at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
