William Henkel died of heart disease in his sleep at home, 339 East 18th Street. He was 60 years old. Beloved husband of Sophia (nee Faller) and devoted father of William Henkel, Jr., Matthew A. Henkel, lawyers, and six daughters: Mrs. Fred G. (Lillian) Michel; Mrs. William P. (Mabel) Kreykenbohm; Dorothy; Georgiana; Helen and Ethel Henkel.
Funeral services will be held Monday at St. George's Protestant Episcopal Church, Stuyvesant Square with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village, L.I.

William Henkel was appointed U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of New York by President McKinley in 1898. Presidents Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson continued him in office until 1916. For many years he was Republican leader of the 12th Assembly District. As the United States Marshal, Mr. Henkel held many notorious prisoners, including "Lupo the Wolf," Dr. W.G. Morton and Cassie Chadwick.
