Suffolk - Lawrence Wayne Sanders, 69 of W. Wexford Drive, Suffolk, VA transitioned Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Hampton, VA. He was a native of Newport News, VA and the son of the late Elihu C. Sanders and Marjorie Jordan Sanders.

Lawrence was a 1966 graduate of Southwestern High School. He retired after 20 years in the U.S. Army.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Chinell A. Sanders; sister, Beryl D. Sanders of Hyattsville, MD; brother, Delmar Sanders of Dyrden, VA; three sisters-in-law, Linda R. Hargrave of Suffolk, Carolyn Sanders of Crozet, VA, Deborah Sanders of Louisville, KY; brother-in-law, Westley Ricks; two aunts, Retha Jordan of Chesapeake, VA and Ruby Green of Augusta, GA; ten nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. A special thanks to Colleen Naumann of North Suffolk Family Medicine, the staff of the VA Pallative Care Program and Linda Hargrave.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Robert L. Hobbs. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
