Rancher and political leader, Since 1933 Mr. Speiden a Republican, had been president of the 40,000‐acre Jay. Six Ranch in nearby Benson. He ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1956 and 1958 against Representative Stewart Udall. He was Pima County Republican chairman in 1958, 1960 and 1961. A veteran of both World Wars, Mr. Speiden retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He held the Bronze Star. He was a member of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and a director of the Arizona Hereford Association.
