Sarah Elizabeth Phelps Higgins Crabtree, 90, homemaker and resident of Pleasant Drive, died Friday, September 1, 2017 in Florence, Alabama.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Vassar officiating. Burial will follow in Phelps Cemetery in Giles County.

Born August 5, 1927 in Giles County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late James Weakley Phelps and the late Henretta Dickey Phelps. She enjoyed flower arranging and gardening. Mrs. Crabtree was a member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Joseph Wayne (Ann) Higgins of Florence, Alabama; David Ray (Pam) Higgins of Burns; sisters, Christine Burks of Lebanon; Linda Ann Bass of Columbia; brothers, Neal S. (Theresa) Phelps of Decatur, Alabama; Mark (Jean) Phelps of Pulaski; Carl (Marie) Phelps of White House; grandchildren, Beth Ann Higgins; Erica Prince; Meredith Gray; Blaine Higgins; Loren Donegan; Paige Baker; great grandchildren, Daily Richey; Zoe Gray; Hunter Donegan; Pierson Higgins; Palmer Higgins; and sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Phelps; and Marian Phelps.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Clarence Higgins in 1978; Crawford L. Crabtree in 2010; grandson, Joseph Logan Higgins; sister, Virginia McClure; brothers, Earl Phelps; Dean Phelps; Jesse Phelps; great grandson, Alan Richey; and sister-in-law, Joann Phelps.

Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
