Maurice V "Mickey" Geerts, 59, of 408 Riverside Drive, president of Geerts Soft Water Co and an active church layman, was pronounced dead on arrival Wednesday at Leila Hospital where he was taken after being stricken at his residence.

Mickey Geerts water company head and was a member of the camp committee for Wesley Woods Camp. When the Trinity church was affiliated with the Evangelical United Brethren conference, he had held many district and conference positions on boards and committees.

He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was serving as president of the board of trustees, and resident agent of the church. He also was chairman of the board of trustees of the church.

Born in Gardenplain, Ill, he came to Battle Creek in 1939 from Elkhart, Ind, to manage Progressive Oil Co. He held that position with the firm until 1973. In 1950 he established Geerts Oil Co at 2020 Dickman Road, and the firm was sold in 1970.

He entered the water conditioning business at the Dickman Road address in 1960 and had been president of the firm since that time.

He is survived by his widow, the former Evelyn B Brenneman; a daughter, Mrs Ray H (Bonnie) Anderson of 420 Country Club Blvd; a son, Mickey T Geerts of 489 Morningside Drive; six grandchildren, and brothers, John, Everett, Merle and Lloyd Geerts, all of Elkhart, Ind, and Howard Geerts of Denver, Colo.

Services will be held at 1 pm Saturday in Trinity United Methodist Church; Arrangements are by Richard A Henry Funeral Home.

Battle Creek - Evelyn B Geerts, 94, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.

Evelyn was born on August 31, 1916, in Wakarusa, IN, the daughter of Edward and Nellie (Kehr) Brenneman. She had been a resident of the area since 1939 coming from Elkhart, IN. She was a graduate of Wakarusa High School in 1934.

On November 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Maurice V "Mickey" Geerts who preceded her in death in 1975.

She was employed by Adams and Westlake until she moved to Battle Creek in 1950. She and her husband co-founded Geerts Fuel Oil and Geerts Soft water Company which she owned and operated until her retirement in 1981.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, member and treasurer of Esther Circle, was named Special Lady at Trinity United Methodist Church, Big Sister of the Year in 1975 and was a volunteer at Lakeview General Hospital.

Surviving are children, Bonnie L Anderson and Mickey T (Penny) Geerts; grandchildren, Terri (Bruce) Miller, Lori (Paul) DeSchryver, Vicki (Tad) Ralston, Wendi (David)Keathley, Haley Mackey, Leann Geerts (Kevin Sproull) and Chelsea Geerts and 8 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters and a great grandson, Travis Keathley.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Richard A Henry Funeral Home with The Rev Bruce Kintigh officiating. Visitation will be held from 11-1 pm. A private interment will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
