On Tuesday, August 29th, 2017, Cassie spent a pain free, joyous day, surrounded by her Charlotte family. Her grandchildren helped her fill out her menu choices for the day at CMC-Main, laughing together at the favorite foods she checked and added! Sitting with her as she enjoyed breakfast, by lunchtime nine of us had gathered, and Cassie had us all hold hands as she offered a beautiful blessing. Then she enjoyed a good nap, and was eager to see her dinner tray at 5:00 pm. The dome was ceremoniously lifted, revealing a huge cheeseburger, hand cut fries, and two cups of chocolate ice cream! Kissing her goodbye, we left with happy hearts. Her dear nurse called around 8:00 pm, sharing that Cassie had died quietly and peacefully from an aortic aneurysm, watching the channel where she hoped for her rained-out favorite Atlanta Braves' game to resume!

Throughout her life, Cassie's church was her second home. Born in Lumberton, NC, growing up in Rutherfordton, NC, and moving to Charlotte in 1940 as a sophomore at Central High School, Cassie and her family centered their lives and family around their church. They all sang in choirs, especially Cassie's dad, who was a bass soloist. At Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Cassie loved Youth Fellowship, taught Sunday School, led and taught Circles, was the President of the Presbyterian Women, assisted with Girl Scouts, was elected as both a Deacon and an Elder, and received a PW Life Membership.

Her favorite hobbies were sewing, sports, dancing, and reading. Cassie was a member of the renowned and beloved L'Histoire Book Club, and was president of the Queens College Athletic Association, lettering in two sports. She and her husband were happy members of The Roundtowners Dance Club, Charlotte Swim Club, and Myers Park Country Club. But, Cassie's favorite place to rest and relax with family and friends was their "Little House" in Blowing Rock, NC.

Cassie got an A.A. degree at Stephens College in Missouri, and graduated from Queens College (now University) with double B.A. majors in Psychology and Sociology. At Queens, Cassie joined Kappa Delta Sorority, and was elected May Queen, wearing the same dress, embellished, to marry her sweetheart, Robert Broadway, four months later on September 7, 1946.

After working three years as a Juvenile Probation Officer, Cassie and Robert welcomed three children. Cassie considered motherhood as her favorite time of life. Her children and so many of their friends were adored by her, and chose to spend many happy hours at our stable and loving home.

Predeceasing Cassie were her parents, Clarence Alexander and Nora Leigh Pope McArthur; beloved older brother, Clarence Alexander McArthur, Jr.; and her dear husband, John Robert Broadway. Those who will miss their devoted Mom daily, but delight in her life spent glorifying God, in whose arms she now dwells forever, are her children, Kathy McCollum (Bill), Cynthia Creta (John deceased), and John Broadway, Jr. (Sally). Cassie's adored grandchildren are Travis McCollum (Eva), Peyton McCollum, Brad Farrington (Maggie), and Hayley Anderson (Drew). Cassie's "Great-Grands" were a joyous bonus: Erin McCollum, Tyler McCollum, Macyn Farrington, Nate Farrington, Levi Anderson, and Polly Weaver. Lou Vora Hare has been her dear, forever friend. Five nephews and one niece were always loved by Cassie, and she was surely greeted by her thirty-one first cousins in Heaven! Betty Patterson became her loving "Sister" at Sharon Towers, and Cassie so enjoyed her fourteen years overlooking the city - in what was also her parents' wonderful retirement home.
