First wife died while living in Denmark. Married a second time while in Denmark and after coming to America in 1885 and settling at Cedar Falls and soon after Grundy County Iowa his second wife died. (names unknown). In 1898 he came to Newell, Iowa and lived with his son, Lars Smith until his death. Cause of death was from a fall.
Those who mourn the loss of their father and grandfather are Lars Smith, Hans and Mattie and Mrs. C.J. Timke.
