From Ragersville, Ohio, Zimmerman family collection:
David Zimmerman is one of the servicemen from Auburn Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio to join the 126th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Co E August 22, 1862.
Prior to the war, the Zimmerman collection says he married Elisabeth Coppersmith in January 2, 1861. They had a son who was born prior to David's serving in the OVI. J Robert Zimmerman was born May 3, 1862. [He died at the age of 12 and is buried in Ragersville Cemetery.]
On March 23 1864, David died at Brandy Station in Culpepper County, Virginia. His remains were returned and there is no date of burial for him in Ragersville Cemetery. A pension was applied for in 1864 by his widow, Elizabeth. She received the pension until her death in 1916.
Elizabeth ended up marrying George Rombold from Holmes County, Ohio. They had a daughter, Adella, who survived her death.
There is a large war memorial at the top of the cemetery recognizing all the soldies and sailors that served our country, of which David Zimmerman paid the ultimate price.
