Funeral services for Joe A. Emery, proprietor of the Emory Music Company and a widely known sportsman, were held Thursday morning, Nov. 14 (sic), in St. Mary's Cathedral. Mr. Emery died Monday, Nov. 16 [sic]...Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Westlawn Memorial Park...
Mr. Emery was born Jan. 23, 1911, at Spalding to Mr. and Mrs. Bert J. Emery. He attended school at Horace. After his graduation he worked as a salesman until he founded the Emory Music Company in Grand Island. The company operated throughout Central Nebraska. An ardent sportsman, Mr. Emery was particularly interested in horsemanship and he maintained two fine horses at the Grand Island Saddle Club. He participated in many horse shows in this part of the state and was active in the Hall County Livestock Improvement Association. Mr. Emery was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Elks Club and the Saddle Club.
He and Miss Norma Winkler were married May 26, 1937, in Lincoln. They made their home in Grand Island. Survivors include his wife; three children, Gregory, Norren, and Douglas; his mother, Mrs. Louise Emery of Grand Island; three brothers, William, Monterey Park, Calif.; Lewis of Grand Island; and Ralph, San Francisco; and one sister, Mrs. Rolland J. Kelly, Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Albert, who died in service in World War II, and Ray.
