Kathryn was born on August 27, 1923, rural Janesville, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Anna (Lenius) Burman. She was raised in rural Janesville and graduated from Janesville High School in 1942. Kathryn then attended Allen School of nursing in Waterloo and was a member of the first graduating class in 1945.
Kathryn was united in marriage to Lawrence Fosen on September 21, 1947, in Waverly, Iowa. The couple made their home in Orange Township, Waterloo, Iowa. Lawrence passed away on November 29, 1978.
On November 12, 1983, Kathryn was united in marriage to Melvin Walker in rural Waterloo. The couple made their home on the Walker family farm rural Dunkerton. Melvin passed away on March 6, 2009. During her life Kathryn worked at Dr. Powers and Dr. Gerard’s office, as an office nurse and scrub nurse, for seventeen years, as a nurse at Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo for twenty-three years, and helped Melvin on the farm.
Kathryn was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bennington. Her enjoyments included family, especially, her great-grandchildrn, puzzle books, the Lawrence Welk Show, and gardening.
Kathryn’s memory is honored by: two step-daughters, Sandi (Dan) Goings of Hudson, Iowa and Pamm (Jim) Fuller of San Antonio, Florida; seven step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Billye Burman of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husbands; a son, James Fosen; a sister, Marjorie Walker; and four brothers, Edward, Howard, Robert, and Wallace Burman.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver, Iowa, where family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bennington, rural Waterloo. Burial will follow at Orange Township Cemetery, rural Waterloo.
