G. W. DAME DIES, AGED 80

SON OF REV. DR. W. M. DAME WAS POPULAR ACTOR.

West Palm Beach, Fla., October 14, G. Wilmer Dame, son of the late Rev. Dr. William M. Dame, former rector of Memorial Church in Baltimore, died here at his home last night after a short illness.

Mr. Dame, who was 80, moved here in 1931 from Baltimore after illness forced him to retire from the stage. He was a popular actor of the first 3 decades of this century.

Although he made his home on Bolton street near his father's church in Baltimore, Mr. Dame traveled extensively with road companies. He appeared many times on the stage at Ford's Theater and on the New York stage.

Most notable among his performances were those with Anna Russell in "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and one season with James O'Neill in repertoire.

As a child he studied at the old Major Wilbur Hall's school and then attended Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., where he was born. Illness forced him to give up training for the ministry in 1898.

Even as an actor Mr. Dame showed he had a great love for the ministry. In 1908 he became lay reader for St. Bartholomew's Protestant Episcopal Church during the absence of his brother Rev. William Page Dame, who was then the church rector.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille M. Dame. There were no children. Surviving in Baltimore are W. Page Dame, a nephew, Mrs. Daniel D. de Butts, a niece, and in Easton, Maryland, Mrs. Samuel S. Sands, a niece. William M. Dame, another nephew, lives in Burlington, Vermont.
