Madge Jarvis Snyder of Winnabow, NC, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the age of 83. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother by her family.
Madge was born in Monroe, NC, on July 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Stanley and Maude Chaney. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life of 20 years, Tom Snyder; and her brother Hubert Chaney.
Surviving are her daughter, Sara Victoria Jarvis of Durham, NC, and stepsons Michael, Thomas and Robert Snyder; her sister, Wanda Chaney Holbrook of Winnabow, NC; two grandsons, Benjamin Randall David (Stephanie) of Wilmington, NC and Jonathan Marshall David (Amy) of Leland, NC; and four great-grandchildren, Madeline Randall, Sophia Grace and Benjamin Fitzgerald David of Wilmington, NC, and Tyson Reid David of Leland, NC.
Mrs. Snyder was a longtime member of The Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach, FL. She was educated at Wingate College and The University of North Carolina, Greensboro with a degree in home economics. Before her retirement in 1987, she was a science teacher for 25 years at Holly Hill Junior High School in Holly Hill, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC, with Pastor Ernie Thompson and Pastor Frank Mays officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Cemetery in Monroe, NC at a later date.
The Family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Cape Fear Hospital, as well as Comfort Keepers and Liberty Hospice of Brunswick County for their care and kindness this past year.
